For the first time since Ireland declared its independence from UK, Queen Elizabeth II will open her doors to the Irish head of state.

President Michael D. Higgins will pay a state visit April 8. With him is his wife, Sabina, and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny. He is expected to address both houses of Parliament, another first in the history of both UK and Ireland.

Queen Elizabeth II, meanwhile, is to host a state banquet in Windsor Castle for her Irish guests.
